early voting

.

We "early" voted today. We were told that over 12,000 people in our county have already voted. Our county, at the 2006 census, had a population of about 150,000. Ohio's attorney general said on the Rachel Maddow show that she expected an 80% voter turnout, and at the county board of elections, they anticipate a 90% turnout. Amazing.

I feel cheated by the early voting. I guess I wouldn't care as much if they don't start broadcasting the results, but I think they are. I'm big on ceremony and for me, everyone going to the polls on the same day was a special kind of ceremony. The only reason to get an absentee ballot was if you were out of town.

Having lived on the west coast for so long, it was always irritating having the newscasters calling the race before our polls had closed, kinda of saying our votes didn't count. I guess some of that animosity is carrying over with this early voting thing. But I guess I shouldn't mind if it gets more people out and voting, right?

Good morning!
